Problematic Question...

Should there be free education for anyone that wants it?

  1. This is a great question because there are so many different avenues you can go with either side. There are several deep rooted topics in this question like money, politics, public education, our youth, value of education, and human rights that either side can make a good argument.

There are a lot of issues with "free" education. I don't consider anything "free" and I realize a lot of things that are considered free are taken for granted. On the other side of the spectrum I realize that a lot of people out there cannot afford certain things and would greatly appreciate getting assistance with those things. I feel strongly that education falls under this category.

I took my high school education for granted. I see high school seniors in my college classes all the time and wonder why I didn't do that myself. I did just enough to get by and I didn't value the education offered because to me it had little monetary value. The same can be said about my first three semesters in college when my parents were paying for my education. I failed every class I could and tanked my gpa down to a 1.2 over all. Again, I just didn't see the value of my education. Now lets fast forward to two years ago. I got married and wanted to continue my education. I started having to pay for it out of pocket and when tuition is right around fifteen hundred dollars a semester, I started seeing my education in a different light. If you cut out my first three semesters back when I was 21, my current gpa would be 3.3 over all. When I can put a price tag on each class and know exactly how much work and money I have to put into my college education, it makes it a lot easier to appreciate it.
